All proceeds from the Save The Tigers Model Horse Show will be donated to the charity Tiger Research And Conservation Trust (TRACT).
Tigers are incredible creatures! From their striking orange, striped coats to their uncat-like affinity to water, these animals are truly unique. Tigers are formidable predators who boldly rule the top of the food chain; however, they are not strong enough to avoid extinction. There are nine subspecies of tigers, tragically three of these subspecies are extinct. All of the extant subspecies are endangered, while some are critically endangered. Tiger numbers are falling for several reasons including poaching for their fur and other parts, attacks on humans, loss of habitat to farming, and the overhunting of their prey. It is up to us to try to solve these problems and Save the Tigers!
About Tiger Research and Conservation TRust (Tract)
The TRACT organization has a unique approach to tiger conservation. The organization is run out of Central India and works with several national parks nearby. The TRACT approach to conservation involves protecting tigers, their prey, their habitat and surrounding areas. One reason this charity has been so successful is because they embrace the communities surrounding the tigers as well. By providing jobs that aid in Tiger Conservation, TRACT helps nurture a communal love for Tigers and their protection. TRACT helps educate and embrace communities by placing Tiger Ambassadors in communities. These Ambassadors provide a representative in communities that can educate the population on the importance of Tigers, how conflicts with tigers can be resolved, and to keep an eye out for potential poaching activity. Through research of why attacks on humans occur, TRACT utilizes Tiger Response Teams to aid in educating people on how to prevent attacks. TRACT also helps support the education via scholarships and betterment of the people in the community in order to help decrease the dependency on the forest, therefore, decreasing Human-Tiger conflict. Finally, TRACT joins the local enforcements to create the Jungle Patrol. The Jungle Patrol are "Equipped with field uniform, field shoes, Binoculars, cameras and an insurance, they patrol the sensitive buffer areas, which have a hard edge of farmlands and villages, fire fighting, locating threats of poaching and snaring, watching water sources against poisoning, monitoring cattle kills, checking on illegal timber and bamboo extraction by locals in the name of firewood and much more".
